HB Day 3: Seed Organisation

Seed Organisation for the novice gardener!

I'm a girl that likes organisation, in fact, I thrive on it. If its not organised, chaos rules and I get overwhelmed and find it too hard to get anything done! I figured if I have to charged with all things garden while my sweet my is in Singapore I am going to have to have the planting and seeds organised otherwise it just won't get done! If the seeds are sitting in a box they will probably be forgotten and I will have to spend extra money on getting seedlings as opposed to planting my own.

Thank heavens bhg have a great idea that will solve my organisational issues AND remind me when seeds need to be planted!  I love the idea of having ribbons hanging for each month of the year pegged with the seeds that need to be planted then .... what a cool idea and such a pretty way to organise them too!  The bhg idea is also pinned to my Outdoor Spaces board on Pinterest.  We do have a potting shed out the back, it needs some work, A LOT of work and you will see it next week as the overhaul on it begins.  In the meantime I have hung my handy dandy seed ribbons inside the back door.

Supplies

This is a great project if you are a wannabe gardener but have limited knowledge on planting times.  It also uses everyday items that can be quickly put together to organise the seeds, something I am really appreciating at the moment :)  The hardest part of this project was reading the back of the seed packets and then assigning them to their appropriate month!  Most of the seeds had multiple months on them so I just attached the seed pack to the first month that germination could be done and figured
I could move the seed packet over to the next month once I had done the first planting ... sounds good in theory anyway ;)

Thanks to bhg for making this novice garden much more organised and if anyone comes over they'll think I am SO green fingered ... I won't tell if you don't!

week one: cape cod chair

week one's project will be to make one of these from free pallets ... just as this one was :)
i've picked an easy but a scary first project for year two of turning pinterest creations into my reality ...  so why is the first one easy? well it so happens the inspiration was first pinned to my outdoor boards and it was from a really local creator, my sweet husband.  a few weeks ago he made this cape cod chair out of FREE pallets ... yes, this cape cod chair cost the price of its nails or screws or whatever was used to put it together.  can you guess the scary part?  yeah, i'm not a builder or even handy with a power tool.  i can tell a screw and a nail apart but that's about as far as it goes!

ok, so the project is chosen and i have the week to complete it starting today (monday NZT time) and will have the finished project ready for you to view sunday NZT time.  so over the next couple of days i will show you some progress reports (i hope or the injuries!) and how my first foray into building develops ... i am just hoping my husband will stay patient with me for the entire week of building we do together ... wish me luck!

day sixty one: sponge ball bombs for the pool

ready for water fun :)
day sixty one and its a special day in singapore .... HAPPY 46th BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE .... we are really looking forward to enjoying the day's festivities so i am up early and making some sponge ball bombs for the kids to use later in the day!  this great idea is from one charming party and is pinned to my outdoor spaces board on pinterest.

the supplies required :)
i am making seven of them and for each ball you need 3 sponges.  all you need to do is cut each sponge in half lengthways and then in half again.  gather up twelve different pieces and then tie tightly together with dental floss ... find some water, a bunch of kids, and you are good to go :)

sponge bombs of fun :)
outcome: the balls look great but whether they live up to expectations is still pending!  we will see later today and i will post the progress!  providing these balls work they would be brilliant as party favours for a pool/beach party and with some help you could even have them as a craft activity for the kids to make at the party!  they don't take long to make, are REALLY cost effective, and i bet you would have some proud kids at the end of the activity!

fun for the pool!
thanks so much to one charming party for an excellent idea for the water ... i absolutely loved it and think the options for these beauties for a pool party are awesome!  a visit to their website for party ideas is a must, so many great options and plenty of photo eye candy!
